FAQ
What are your areas of speciality?
My passion and experience come together to best serve those who are wishing to explore areas related to: pain and chronic health concerns, grief and bereavement, death and dying, anxiety, and infertility. If you're unsure if your needs are aligned with my areas of speciality I encourage you to reach out or book a free 15 minute consult may help to clarify if we will be a good fit for a counselling journey together.
How many appointments will I need? How long will counselling take?
The counselling process may take many forms; with some people engaging in only one or two sessions, while others benefit from long-term support that addresses deeply embedded concerns, habits, or major life transitions. Mapping the course of your counselling journey may be done collaboratively and evolve over time.

A counsellor may be thought of as someone on your healthcare team that you can call upon as the challenges of life eb and flow. It is not uncommon for someone to come for a block of sessions, then go into the world and practice their skills for a while, returning to counselling again when they require some additional support. Others may benefit from ongoing counselling with maintenance sessions embedded throughout the year.

What is your cancellation policy.
I require 24 hours notice for all cancellations otherwise you will be charged the full cost of the session. I understand that some situations can’t be predicted and encourage you to reach out if an emergency occurs and I am certainly willing to work with you to reschedule without penalty.
All you need is a private space, a web-cam (a laptop or desktop is preferred so you can be hands free), a good internet connection and headphones with a microphone. We also need an alternative phone number we can use to connect if the internet goes down.
Do you offer direct billing?
No, I do not offer direct billing; however, the CCC designation is covered under many extended health benefits plans. If you aren’t sure, please contact your insurance provider and ask.
What do I need for virtual counselling?
What is a "secured system", and which one do you use?
A secured online system allows us to meet face to face, similar to Skype or Facetime only more secure. This allows us to connect in a way that is similar to an in-office session. Having a secured connection ensures that our sessions remain confidential and none of your information is stored.
The secured system we use is through Jane. It is a paid platform that uses end to end encryption and password protection to ensure we can meet securely. This is the same system we use to book your appointments.
Are sessions confidential
The counselling relationship is a sacred one; to create a foundation of safety and trust anything share in our sessions stays between you and I.
There are exceptions to this:
-
If you disclose imminent risk of harm to yourself or others
-
If you disclose risk of harm or neglect to a vulnerable person (child, elderly, dependent adult, etc.)
-
If your records were ever subpoenaed by the court.
In these instances, I would need to break confidentiality; however I would make every effort to work collaboratively with you to ensure the wellness and the safety of yourself and others.
